Kent, Buffett has already educated his investors about "super catastrophes". One of the smartest guys in the world in the field of statistics, Ajit Jain, works for him. So they know what they are up against. And since they don't pull the "pro forma" tricks on their investors, the investors know it as well. Most of their investors read what are known as "annual reports", cover to cover. Of course, JDSU investors have never had to bother about annual reports! ;-) What the recent events will do is to drive up the cost of insurance sky-high and drive the poorly-capitalized re-insurers out of business, leaving only BRK.A/B and one or two other survivors standing. Can you say "toll bridge"?! Sad as the occasion is, this will be one of the greatest buying opportunities in BRK.A/B. I only hope it goes low enough.
