Indian gold imports halted, prices up on US attacks
BOMBAY : Gold imports in India, the world's largest consumer, ground to a halt on Wednesday after prices surged following terror attacks in the United states, traders said. "No one wants to take a risk at the current prices. There is a lot of uncertainty in the market," Yashvant Thakkar, director of gold trading firm Amrapali Industries, told Reuters.
Spot gold was quoted at $285.00/9.00 an ounce at 0620 GMT, up from Hong Kong's open at $283.50/8.50 but below the late London fix at $287.00.
Spot bullion ended the Asian day in Hong Kong at $271.30/1.80 an ounce on Tuesday.
Traders said global gold prices were likely to return to Tuesday's levels in the next three to four days and they would make import commitments only after this happened.
"I don't think gold prices will sustain at the current level," said Nayan Pansare, a senior official of gold trading firm Inter Gold Ltd.
Bullion dealers were not in a hurry to buy gold as they had enough stocks to meet short term demand, traders said.
Gold jewellery demand in India is normally subdued in the two-weekly period ending on Monday as it is considered an inauspicious time, with most Hindus paying homage to their forefathers, they said.
Pitri Paksha, the 15-day period when Hindus generally defer buying of gold and avoid celebrations, started on September 2.
But demand for the yellow metal would be good in October and November during the Hindu festival season which would be at its peak during Diwali, the festival of lights, which falls in mid-November.
India's gold demand rose to 490.4 tonnes in the first half of 2001 from 417.8 tonnes in the same period a year ago, according to the industry-funded World Gold Council.-Reuters

You go with what you want. I'll go with Jesus' words from his mouth. All judgement has been given to him.

On another note, it is a sad, sad day that has happened. In the scheme of world history, it looks as though man has learned little from history and is bent on selfishness, greed and self destruction. It is good, however, to see people stepping in to help the victims of this latest tragedy. I admire the rescue workers who gave their lives for others. That is highly commendable.

Lorne, ole PapKing is a dead bird who fell of the fence on the wrong side. The problem with Bible thumpers like him are legion. The largest is the whole issue of a vengeful God image, and the whole subject of righteous anger
being okay for Jesus then it must be okay for us, too.

The same bible he's thumping tells believers to "be angry and sin not." Maybe ole PapKing just cut that little part out because it doesn't fit his politically correct, immature little god image stuff.

He can't handle the passages that talk about Christ pitching thieving moneychangers out of the temple. He can't handle passages where Christ was out doing a walkabout with the disciples and then cursed a fig tree, withering it on the spot. He can't handle the passages where he vehemently rebuked the prince of darkness in the wilderness when dealing with his own personal frailities and the devil himself all at the same time. He can't deal with fire and brimstone of old testament, and striking dead many despots. PapKing can't handle all the sanctioned death and destruction of non-jewish enemies, both new and old testament. Hell, if he had his way, we'd still be trying to rehabilitate Hitler and Mussolini!

His god has soft pink hands, speaks in a pre-pubescent voice barely above a whisper, a doormat kind of deity.
His gold only knows how to heal the sick, maim and halt, and paints rainbows above arks. It's disgusting. Like to see one of those types take on Goliath. Gimme a "david" any ole day. Or how about sending Barney Pfife to take on ole wicked King Nebucanezzer!!! Now there's a fair fight!

I repeat and will continue to repeat...God has no hands but our hands, and no feet but our feet, to heal and love, true, but healing and loving are never forced. Violence has been brought here that is WAY over the top. God has no hands but our hands and no feet but our feet to right the wrong from a position of strength, eradication and cleansing.

As in Germany, France, Russia, Czech, Iraq, etc., sometimes you have to get the mule's attention and not by tickling his arse! You have to take him out.. This is one of those times.

His "god" can do it...but as long as ole PapKing is so stupid and misinformed, his god is going to have to do "it" without him, so that PapKing doesn't get his hands dirty or have to deal with the fact that god can get angry AND do something about it using humans, and still be "respected in the morning!"
