It is true that the United States had broken Japanese codes before war. And it is apparently true that the Japanese were asking the Russians (neutral in the Pacific war, allied with the U.S. in the west) to approach the Americans about an end to hostilities (trying to avoid unconditional surrender) - before the A bombs were dropped. But the Japanese also were supposed to have plans to fight to the very bitter end as well.
