(17:45) Palestinians rally for bin Laden

Hundreds of Palestinian members of Hamas demonstrated today in Gaza City, in Ramallah, and the Nuseirat refugee camp in Jericho, Israel Radio reported.

At the rallies in Gaza and Ramallah, demonstrators waved pictures of terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden. Palestinian policemen seized videotapes of the event taken by cameramen working for foreign networks and ordered them not to film any further.

<ot>Hi Bruce - well, we may have to settle on agree-to-disagree. To begin with, I am not the only one who has doubt about the use of technologies

latimes.com

even though the premises and underlying rationale [and desire] may be different.

With regard to cooperation, I don't know what makes you think the US is doing just that. I mean, there is no secret that few ally [and former and present adversaries] are unhappy about the my-way-or-hiway diplomacy about missile defense etc etc. To backpedal a bit, I am behind my President a 100%, even if this tragedy had not happened. However, as many people have pointed out here, that doesn't mean people should be monolithic about their Worldview.

I know very little about ME, so I am not competent to comment, let alone to say who is right and who is wrong, even though usually no one is right or wrong 100% at all times. Certainly, the Palestinians in the Refugee Camps were kept there is fan the hatred. Sending tanks in there only inflamed them more. So, if the world that is possible, it is not so much of allowing one group to dominate the other. Otherwise, they will destroy each other, and the rest of the world in the process.

You know, the world is indeed getting smaller. Maybe getting the Palestinians [not the extremists, maybe not even the ones in power now] to talk to the Israelis, the IRA and the Unionists, for that matter, is not such a bad idea.

I mean, sure, President Bush had a lot on his plate, even before this happened. However, the concern that the US is turning isolationist is not 100% rumor w/o circumstantial evidence. If you don't think it was the case in the last 1/2 a yr, probably there isn't not a whole lot of common ground you and I can share to make rational discussion.

At the risk of being misunderstood, I suspect software expertise is not the sole possession of American know how. No, I don't mean we are inferior. Quite on the contrary, my guess is that American cos are still very much in the forefront of technological advancements However, INTERNET is not just American after all. How could you hold Russian programmers, German programmers, or even Chinese programmers TREASON is beyond me!

There is a lot we can be proud of to be Americans. Most of all, freedom is worth dying for. However, sometimes a little humility goes a long way to win and keep friends. As President Bush has suggested, terrorists may distroy the foundation of our buildings, but they will never destroy the foundation of our democracy. Americans of my generation and the generation before have fought hard to win the freedom from paranoia and fear, I would think it would be worse to go back to the era of red scare and Unamerican subcommittee, when disloyality was bandied about as a way to silent disagreement. No one likes to die the way the victims did in this tragedy. However, I suspect many people would agree that there are things worse than death. To me, fear and paranoia are just that. But maybe it is just me <G>

best, Bosco
