Strange but apparently true.

BUSH'S FAUSTIAN DEAL WITH THE TALIBAN

Enslave your girls and women, harbor anti-U.S. terrorists, destroy every vestige of civilization in your homeland, and the Bush administration will embrace you. All that matters is that you line up as an ally in the drug war, the only international cause that this nation still takes seriously.

That's the message sent with the recent gift of $43 million to the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan, the most virulent anti-American violators of human rights in the world today. The gift, announced last Thursday by Secretary of State Colin Powell, in addition to other recent aid, makes the U.S. the main sponsor of the Taliban and rewards that "rogue regime" for declaring that opium growing is against the will of God. So, too, by the Taliban's estimation, are most human activities, but it's the ban on drugs that catches this administration's attention.

<<Islamic nations believe that they would suffer very minimal retribution for secretly sponsoring such a devastating blow on America, precisely because of high US moral standards that would preclude massive strikes at mere suspect states

What are they forcing us to do? How can we surgically extract the real culprits without killing thousands of innocent people? >>

susieq, you really can't avoid killing thousands of innocent people if you at war. Sometimes the only solution to eradicate a problem is go all out...which means killing thousands in the process. But, we don't see many of the innocent doing away with the real killers.

Our problem as a nation is that we feel we need to get everyone else's approval in the world before we attack our enemies. I believe this is why we couldn't get Saddum back during desert storm...we gave him about 3 months head start to go and hide himself, while he put (untrained troops on the front lines).

I wish I knew the easy answer to the problem. I feel for the presidents dilemma as to how to approach the destruction of the culprits.

Bottom line, we need to strike and strike HARD...but, we need an actual target first. Just my thoughts.

Hi Susie

<<<What are they forcing us to do? How can we surgically extract the real culprits without killing thousands of innocent people?>>>

they made their beds when they harbored these barbaric fanatics...there was NO outcry to get them out of there country by their people...

there leaders have sealed their fate...hard as that will be to imagine...innocent men-women-& childern will die needlessly in the wake of this coming war...

but..we have no choice...we weren't given a choice...

let the chips fall where they may...
