> One doesn't "hate" cancer, one surgically removes it as expeditiously as possible with as little collateral damage as possible.

Fair enough. But one also does not coat his home with asbestos, use CFC, and smoke like there is no tomorrow and complain about cancer.

Every sane man wants Brian's world- unfortunately realism overtakes idealism ultimately.

This is the excuse used by many to maintain the status quo and never move forward as a race. We have principles to live by, whether the Ten Commandments in Christianity or the Five Precepts in Buddhism. One cannot pick and choose when principles are adhered to but one should ALWAYS try to lead an ideal life. When one uses the North Star as a guide one never expects to reach it, but they use it as a guide anyway; similarly, when one practices these ideals perfection is never attained but we should not give up trying.

Brian- "affictive emotions"? What horshit.

Please tell me what in the post you did not understand about afflictive emotions. The term may be new to you and others, but the concept is one of logic and reason and is not difficult to understand.

Peace.

Brian

the cancer involves killing other human beings, and I have no problem with that after this week.

Lone Star,

Before you join in the collective blood thirst, why not try killing some of your own ignorance about your "enemy". How can you hope to ever defeat an enemy that you do not know or understand? Take the time to get to know him. Discover your common interests and goals and instead of an enemy you may have two friends. I assure you that your "enemy" is as ignorant about you as you are of him. This makes combat about as useful as a jousting tournament in terms of ever actually solving the underlying problem. Think about it for a moment. Even if you were to succeed in killing bin Laden, you can be sure there are hundreds of others to take his place. Terrorism is but the symptom of the cancer of misery and poverty. If you are worthy, at least choose a worthy opponent.

Sam

LS,
I would fall somewhere between you and Brian. Folks with his ideology have a duty to spread the message. Yes it may get us angry at a time like this, but for all men to ultimately adopt sanity, one must have messengers. Again from the movie A Few Good Men. Who's ideology would i prefer? Tom Cruise(Brian) or Jack Nicholson(Lone Star)--i choose brian. But who do i want there in the front lines at a time like this--Lone Star, hands down. mike
