The question is would US manage to gain the lead over Russians if that single idiot at power would not halted all research for about 25 years?

Probably. Planned economies can come up with great new ideas, but free market economies tend to eventually pass them in developing these ideas in to useful products.

Albert, not to nit-picking, but... "Islam on another hand is just as strong as it was a 1000 years ago."

Maybe I got my timeline wrong, but was not it the
Alexander the Great who ended somewhat the
Mesopotamia Islamic prosperity some 2300 years ago?

re "..few hundred years ago the picture was very different. Western society was very primitive with virtually no development."

The USA history has counted only 200-something years,
is not it?

re " All research in cybernetics became equivalent to a treason.

I think it just supports my position. That "single idiot"
was not single, he was a breed of the system, and the
system has decided what is good or wrong. It slows things
down, as you have noticed.

BTW, what the heck this cybernetics is good for?
