<<With Russia, Iran, and India backing the Afghani Northern Alliance, Pakistan needs US support as a
counterweight->>
So where does that put us with respect to the Northern Alliance? Not that more than 200 people in this country have even heard of them prior to this week. Is there any way that Pakistan (especially now that Musharraf is running things) will change their tune? What is the composition of the Afghan population in Pakistan that seems to be influencing Pakistani policy; how many of them are refugees from the Taliban? To what extent does Pakistan's recognition of the Taliban regime imply support?

<<As my one Iranian friend who became disillusioned with the Iranian revolution said: "You can't eat religion." >>

It's amazing how much of their meager economies these countries and entities must be commiting to miltiary purposes.

Fox News has reported that major oil companies have told their Middle East employees to prepare to evacuate. That begs the question of exactly what countries they mean. Anyone know?
