I hardly think that the changes that you point out are against the "Republican agenda" in when considered in the context of national security. Actually, I wasn't going to get into "Republican vs Democrat" here, but since you brought it up, this could be a GOOD chance to ADVANCE the Republican agenda. First of all, we can now transfer spending and choke off many of those "liberal-bottlomless-pit-feel-good" programs that never end. Second of all, the anti-gun crowd (who, in large part, cost Gore the vote in Tennessee and Arkansas) will be weaker, as Americans feel the need to own guns as some protection against any personal terror that might occur.

This war on terror does not need to break the bank, but it might, indeed, break the back of many (in my humble opinion, unnecessary) government programs.
