>>in the Balkans where we have been on the same side as Osama Bin Laden and Iran in Bosnia, and Kosovo.<<

Factually incorrect. The name of the game for the west here was disengagement of warring parties. If the statement were true, 8000 slaughtered in Srebrenica for instance a) would not happen and b) the other side would get living lights beaten out of them.

Think of the (relatively few) long-bearded fighters on the Bosnijak side as something similar to what Europe knew as anarchists. Of course somebody footed the bill and it was not a bill that helped rebuild burnt-down mosques and villages.

There's a bureaucracy that was left with not much to do after the Cold War and doesn't want to manage themselves into extintion.

To an extent that those bureaucracies, created to deal with the Cold War, cannot deal with the post-Cold War problems.

There is a need to re-evaluate their purposes. But this is not going to be in the agenda.

Empires will go down with the whole aparattus they came up with.

We don't hate the nations of Islam, we just hold the line against them spreading it by force. In fact, the Islamic culture has a great deal to admire. That ought to go without saying.

As for the Soviets and Afghanistan, that's a different (great) game.
