"hopefully there is a think tank somewhere
focused on any similar vulnerability that
could be out there"

Don't count on it. After seeing several "terrorist experts" and former power brokers such as Sec'y of State - Eagleberger, Chief of Staff-Duberstein, Brig Gen-Scowcroft, Dir CIA-Woolsey tonight: It is clear these guys have only traditional views on how to conduct this campaign. They are clueless.

The think tanks are are private sector/NGO Ivory Towers feeding at the government trough.

These people are a freaking joke.

I used to think there were hoards of brilliant Phd's working out all of these scenarios and ready to load the response to any threat. I'm disappointed to hear Bush, Cheney and all of the so called experts admit "We could never imagine such acts occuring in the US"

Why the heck not?

Go ahead accuse me of monday morning Qb'ing but---

We have a treatise from the #1 terrorist in the world declaring war, a bombing of the WTC in '93 complete with hoards of evidence of the method and motive. A mysterious downing of TWA flight 800 wherein we were rebuffed by the Egyptians for concluding that that pilot was committing hari kari. A S*itload of evidence and alerts for persons in our midst taking flight lessons with irregular INS files. On and on. Yeah, I understand its an "aggregation" problem but thats the point

We have a compartmentalized, bureaucratic, petty politic mess. We need the Prez to cut through this crap and get the talent and skill and experience that we have in place plus new blood that is free of the political skeletons in our closet to get it together.

Creative, culturally enlightened, and masterful solutions exist outside the traditional centers of bureaucratic and educational institutions. Part of the challenge is to get them to the forefront.
