I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who is angry with all the short sellers, who are profiting from our country's tragedy! Terrible and unforgivable, IMHO

It would have been nice to show them something by keeping the market at least where it was before the disaster

Not picking on you in particular Yogi, I've heard this from many people, but what is wrong with this country? I am so sick of hearing that propping up the market is the patriotic thing to do in order to show the terrorists. Show them what? If the market went up 2000 points today, would that have diminished the tragedy in any way? Would it have brought us one step closer to finding some measure of justice? The only way I can see to show the evildoers anything is by proving Americans have more than a 1 week attention span and putting in whatever time and effort it takes to hunt them down and bring them to justice.

Our economy has been so strong over the decades because of the strength and vibrancy of the American people and the American way of life. If America remains strong and vibrant, the economy will come back, and the markets will inevitably follow. By trying to artificially inflate the markets, we are no better than a bunch of Russians putting up a Potemkin village. The only thing we can accomplish is to give astute foreign investors a chance to profit from our foolishness by shorting the stocks we prop up.

In a board which seems so obsessed with conspiracy theories, I'm surprised that no one has pointed out that a patriot rally would have been of immense benefit to the talking heads who were appearing on TV all day urging people to buy stocks, and of even greater benefit to the firms which employ them. I'm not so sure that it was America they were putting first.
