I remember hearing about a manouver in Nam times, that was declared a total, unmitigated failure by higher-level brass: every one of the officers in the position to make real decisions eventually called in B52 to nuke the other side out.

It did not take the thread a week and we are talking total eradication, solitary confinement, mother of all battles, riders on the storm, Jesus Christ, to the frontline! bla bla bla...

Now, if the military sent their own people back to the drawing board with a suggestion to show a little more phantasy, if they really want to keep their stars, we could give it another try too. Before we lose our marbles. What about it?

Jim, I thought a small nuclear explosion about 20 km high over the Taleban would be a good idea [say at night so that the implications would be evident].

Then, tell them that in two days, the next one will be 5 km lower and then another 5km lower a couple of days after that until they agree to surrender and become a United Nations protectorate.

As you say, I don't make the decisions and it might be a bad idea for some good reasons.

On your idea of surrendering terrorists, what do they look like? Maybe they would keep the terrorists and surrender some people they don't like.

Hi Jim,
Recent events certainly give one pause to consider the mindset that placed Japanese Americans AND Canadians were in camps during the WWII.

We have 400,000 plus Muslims in Toronto, not an insignificant number for any NA city.
