Some points I made earlier on another thread

As Bin Laden, and many other terrorist organizations make a substantial amount of their money through the drug trafficking trade, I would suggest (as others may have) to legalize all drugs (including cocaine, heroin etc), treat them as tobacco is treated, and tax them accordingly. The drugs would only be sold from select areas of a city, and restrictions to minors etc would still be enforced as they are for tobacco and alcohol.

This would have many effects including

1) substantial decrease in the availability of funds to the terrorist groups

2) increase in government revenues that could be used for a variety of antiterrorist measures (as well as tax cuts and other required programs that the administration deems important)

3) would free countless law enforcement agents, whose time could be diverted to more pressing current matters (including the possibility of providing air marshals for airlines for now no new added cost)

Another angle that could be brought to attention at the same time, is that as the enemy makes their money from drugs, then we must equate that the use of drugs at this time is the equivalent of treason - and we should make all drugs users feel that quitting should be an important contribution on their part to the war effort.

Win and Robert,

Is there substantive proof that bin Laden gets money from drugs? I'm not questioning your posts, there is just so much BS going around, it's hard to believe a lot of what you read. A good time to be skeptical.
