Russia forming a new force against the Taliban Special Report MOSCOW : Russia, in anticipation of the defeat of the Northern Alliance, is forming a new speedily-mobilized military command of 50,000 troops. According to an Indian daily, a Russian newspaper has published a report according to which Russia has established an extensive military district by joining two military areas on 1 September. According to the report Gen. Alexander Branov has been posted as the commander of the new military district. Gen. Alexander has a vast experience of operation against the mujahideen in Chechnya. Under a strategy Russia is removing its forces from China and north western areas and stationing them in this new district. This new military district comprises of 20 areas. According to the report Russia is preparing another army in the south whose headquarters will be in Samara. Russia has already deployed US-225 fighter planes on a military airbase near the Tajik capital, Dushanbe against the Taliban and is preparing to send more.
