Yeah, Catholicism and Orthodox Christianity have all those monks and nuns sitting in cold monasteries

LOL. That's got nothing to do with Christianity (mine anyway), except for maybe the monks that make that great cheese.
Those are artificial (even as a Catholic I say bordering on cultism) constructs. I'll not defend any part of the those activities ie. Fransicans warring with Jesuits etc., dual Papacies, bastard* children of Popes and Bishops, selling of indulgences...and the list goes on. All politics and power and nothing whatsoever to do with the intent of the religion. Just as in Judaism Islam you have people with an all encompassing hotline to God, yeah right. Somewhere along the line the word teacher becomes confused with despot in all these religions at times.

David, I'm not putting Judaism or Islam, but it seems to me that God in the old Testament is pretty unyielding,... sacrifice your children, your animals etc. Do it my way or I'll destroy you. Hmmmm! I simply meant that Jesus proposed a softer way. Forget how some men eventually pervert all religions for their own ends, that's not the context. Frankly there are a lot if down right silly things in 'my religion' but one must, like anything else in life to take what is good and cut out the noise. For some their is too much noise and it is not worth the effort. C'est la vie.

*bastard in the context that they set up celibacy rules for everybody (which I don't actually see merit in) and then proceeded to break them, no reflection on the offspring produced is intended.
