Actually the most clear-cut investment success I ever had in my life was to transfer, month by month, all my assets at the time from a bond fund to a stock fund in the closing months of the 73-74 decline. I had to fill out a fairly complex form and maybe even get it notarized each month to do this, and there may have been limits on how much I could transfer. But by the bottom I was 100% in stocks, and six months later had about a 50% gain, maybe more.

I was a little too soon, and it was a tense few months, but the ride up from the very bottom was very profitable.

After that, it was extremely hard to make much money until 1982.
