GVTucker, <<<RE: college campus speech codes>>>

Thanks for the links. I didn't realize how heinous some of these PC practitioners are. What a threat!!!

<<<Nevertheless, we recognize that academic freedom has limits, and that no instructor has a right to degrade and debase students merely for the sake of doing so. Our alternative proposal is an attempt to more clearly define the area of speech that is so heinous it ought not be protected, while clearly leaving intact all aspects of academic freedom and free speech. While we strongly agree that the majority's recommendation is better than the current legislation, we part company with the majority because we do not believe the language of the proposed legislation sufficiently protects expression in instructional settings.>>>

But pardon my skepticism. This is not what these Anti-PC advocates on this thread are alarmed by.

Tony Viola has a good question:

<<<Speaking of political correctness, if it's the right thing to do, why is it just an American practice?>>>

Let me see if I can suggest some answers:

a) We are a barbaric people.
b) We lack sensitivity
c) We are a backward nation
d) We are illogical - we can't think like good, God fearing people
e) If we all had gun racks on our pick ups - we would be able to think differently
f) Osami Bin Laden would not attend any university with such codes
g) Flight instructors could be hampered if they tried to harass cetain "elements" in their class rooms.

These are just a few starters. I am sure we can think of more reasons why we are so obstreperous.
