Terrorist demands you left off your list:

(17) Give them money.
(18) Give them more money.
(19) Give them all our money.
(20) Shut up slave and get to work.

"I'd love for the US to be isolationist, but that doesn't mean that the US can afford to have its foreign policy dictated by terrorists."

The US has made serious errors becoming involved in problems which in many cases are unsolvable.

Also, there has been the misconception by the US that money can buy friendship or respect.

It can buy neither.

I'm in no way in favor of isolationism. We need to strike at the heart, not the peripherals. Your points are good ones, but pale in regards to the first thing you mention.

"As far as protecting American civilians tomorrow, you're right, the problem is finding the terrorist cells. But as we find those cells, new ones will be constantly created. It's a never ending problem."

That is the crux of the crisis. The US Government is constitutionally required to protect its citizens. None of the other crap the Government has concerned itself with matters if they don't accomplish that mission. I'm all for our defense, and the best defense is a good offense that is directed at the perpetrators, not the Afghani army for feel good patriotism.knc
