russ, gold HAS gotten more 'press' lately...also some of the people on si do not have access to buy canadian stocks...i think stuff like bay could be attractive when/if the american listing is done...if you read the other boards like the cfz and stuff, you'll note that these guys do play the pennies, via hl, tvx, kinross, etc...

russ, you're just a little early, that's all. Good fundamental analysts usually are.

Calm before the storm Russ. Hold your position. The work that your are doing is appreciated by many.

BTW SUF.TO announced today financing for their Messina Platinum/paladium mine. Full production next year this time. An incredible bargain at current prices.

Russ, we're playing gold stocks over at Strictly: Drilling II and I have this thread bookmarked and so does everyone else on our thread.

We know who you are, Claude too...

Frank P.

Russ, you have voiced my thoughts. It does not make sense to me that so many of the junior/explorers that I own and follow have not moved up in this environment and have even fallen back. I don't get the impression that this esoteric little part of the PM world is aching to break out yet. Maybe my saying that will precipitate a change <g>. I have quite a good position already, but still have a few stinky bids in.

What's up with GBG?

Regards,

vt

We need to see gold above 300 for a month before investors will take this sector seriously.
To many false starts in the past.

Russ,

It is a bit of everything...

We are also trying to reverse a depression state in the nunior mining business. The Bre-X scandal and 5 years of declining metal prices have left a bad feeling.

If gold/silver continue upward, and it looks like they will... don't worry... they will all come back...very strong

I'm still here, still checking in, still holding juniors ... project for the next weeks is to scare up cash to bring into the market and get more, actually ... Braincramp has a point there, it's early yet for the juniors, market wants to see a commitment out of the PoG trend ... which looks like it's on the way

Franco does look good here ... you make the point upthread that they better get off their butts, i think that is true, but there does seem to be this little window of opportunity for them as well .... it would be surprising in the extreme if we didn't see a healthy stream of news out of them by Christmas, shovelling cash into, one hopes, the same juniors we are -g- .... cheers

The silver stocks are breaking out today with PAAS being the leader. It has just made a new 52 week high. If this breakout is sustained the junior laggards will follow. I think silver will lead the precious metals higher since the comex silver inventories are now buried under the WTC ruble and since unlike gold there are not huge above ground stock piles. In addition the federal reserve has been printing money like crazy the last week, probably to prevent a derivatives blowup.

Russ:

I suspect that the poor performance of gold stocks relative to gold in this rally leads many to think that this bounce will fail like so many others before it. Gold stocks VASTLY outperformed gold during the period leading up to the 1993 bull. Too, since the gold complex has been moving opposite the stock market (albeit in a modest way), there is concern about what gold and gold stocks will do when the market finally stages a decent rally.

"... going to pack it up as far as future participation here,"

As the response shows Russ, you are indeed wanted here,
and to me needed to a point that reflects your honest even handed
and blunt cold hard facts approach giving us that "tough love" every
investor needs to keep the sell price above the buy price.

Anyway, its just a short matter of time as in days and weeks
before activity and events appear that will be profound in nature
causing any dominos near by to be touched and fall.

example

From: Ram Rao "... federal reserve has been printing money
like crazy the last week, probably to prevent a derivatives blowup."

another example is a post today about Fed Alan having to place
each of his ten fingers in them holes in the dike while new holes
seem to be handled so far ok by Alan as he uses his ten toes,
and once 20 holes are pluged by Alan he will have his nose to use
for #21 and then #22 with the ok from his Wife. After than, well...

But then, maybe Alan should be told that even if he plugs all holes
in this barrier so that they do not enlarge and cause a collapse,
that he should check to see if the troubled water the barrier is holding back
might itself not have been built tall enough if that troubled water
is being feed by melting dirty snow etc causing its level to raise
with a possible over the top to occure, which if happens will represent
a hole of top of the dike its lenght wide and to the sky high.

The Light of TruTh may be melting some of the near by dirty snow.

Another Time & Place a.k.a. Parallel Universe
this threads Russ Winter could have been, as follows,
but the here and now needs Russ here on this thread.

Mayor Rudy Giuliani, the man whose politics divided New
Yorkers for years, has united his beloved city in the wake
of a tragedy... whose mere presence often elicited protest.
Until now, his term as mayor has been defined by a largely
successful combination of confrontation, argument and brute
political force — and now, suddenly, Giuliani is praised for his
humanity and his command over tragic circumstances.
... Giuliani, clad in FDNY gear, has become a sort of spiritual
advisor to a city reeling in shock, his gentleness a stark
contrast to the bad news he is forced to deliver daily.

<If so, I'm going to be honest with you guys. If there is no more interest than this at this amazing juncture, I'm going to pack it up as far as future participation here>

As for already know (via PM) that is exactly what I did about 7 weeks ago. This is my first post since August 4th. I needed a break from the tone of the discussion groups, which even more recently has turned into verbal personal terrorist attacks over on GPM. I am much more calm, have made several good trades, and used all the extra time to work on my website. I have added 150+ new links to GOLDSHEET and another 150+ to COINSHEET.

<and try to locate other venues (really none yet that I can locate)for communicating ideas in the sector.>

I too would like to see a forum where one could objectively just discuss the fundamentals of some good gold stocks. I used to enjoy the "good old days" of stock picking. It would be nice to develop a standard template (like NAIC) to collect facts in a database and maybe even develop some valuation models. Maybe we need to create such a forum using YahooGroups or other tools available on the Internet ?
