Were those 5,422 people in the WTC, the hundreds on the airplanes, and the firefighters and police who died trying to save them warriors in a declared war? "If a powerful country attacks a weak country, it is a jihad for all Muslims. When a non-Muslim country attacks a Muslim country, it is a jihad," the clerics claim. (italics added). Their statement argues for turning bin Laden over and starting their own jihad against terrorism. 1. How are they defining "powerful?" We looked powerless to stop the terrorist sneak attack, and others like it in the future. To the contrary, those terrorists and nations who support them, who would stealthily declare a unilateral war against freedom-loving, peaceful civilians and civilian targets, look like the ones with ALL the power. I'm sure there were some powerless Muslim civilians among the 5,000+ dead and missing. Using the Clerics' own logic, all powerless, peace-loving Muslims around the world should declare a jihad against the terrorists and their supporters. 2. We aren't "attacking" at all. We're defending. They seem to have forgotten who the aggressors are/were, and denying that by shielding bin Laden and others, Afghanistan might be providing aid, support, and comfort to the powerful aggressors. The clerics' ought to act on their own statement, denounce terrorism worldwide, and demand that the Taliban hand bin Laden over. The clerics and the Taliban have all the power they need to prevent all the suffering that you warn of. If a single bullet flies, place the blame where it belongs. The US didn't start this. Peace-loving Muslims must join the rest of the world and demand an end to this.
