That has something to do with the subject under discussion?

More than it probably appears. We are but one nation among many, and happen to be the only super-power in the world. But that doesn't mean that everything that we do, or have done is right or the best. If we are unwilling to acknowledge to ourselves what we've done right and what we've done wrong, we're doomed to repeat our mistakes. We have policies that in the short term are in our own interests and fail to recognize that we create the incubators of terrorism in the process.

The US has spent the better part of this year, telling the world "screw-you", it's not in the US interest. One example, global warming. The world, at large, believes that global warming is real. In the case of England, when the polar ice cap melts, the gulf stream will be disrupted and the area between London and Sweden will most likely become un-inhabitable. England thinks that's related to their existance. But the US has taken a position that the Kyoto protocol is not fair or fatally flawed or whatever. There is no nation that believes that Kyoto is close to perfect, but they believe one has to start somewhere and build upon the treaty.

We, along with some other major countries, provide the bulk of arms to the third world. In the short term it's in our corporate interests to do so. Let's not be naive in believing that the policy won't spawn another terrorist group somewhere else in the world.
