As Kant pointed out, we believe in God because morality is not vindicated in this life, and our sense of justice requires that justice, at some point, be satisfied.
That sounds suspiciously like "we believe because we want to believe".

I fail to see that there is any requirement on life or the universe or eternity to be just.

And justice is very much a matter of personal viewpoint. Many millions of Moslems consider the 9-11 events justified and just; almost all Americans do not.
