I consider myself a civil libertarian, Lindy, and my antennae jump any time a new government regulation, agency or position is proposed. We need to watch how this plays out, but my understanding of the new office is that it will largely be one that will coordinate the intelligence and efforts of other agencies -- apparently, the existing agencies, INS, FBI, CIA, and local and state law enforcement don't share provide access to each other's info. (surprised?) While we all may feel more comfortable with a government whose left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, it's a shame to have several agencies each hold a piece to a puzzle and have no idea what it means, when putting them together could prevent thousands of innocents from being murdered.
