Intel: Capital Spending Still on Track
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Intel Corp. (Nasdaq:INTC - news) on Friday reaffirmed plans to spend $7.5 billion this year on capital expenditures, even as the world's largest microchip maker faces a struggling semiconductor market weakened further by the attacks last week on New York and Washington.

``It's on track for the forecast we made earlier this year,'' Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy told Reuters.

The statement came on the same day Intel said it would invest $302 million into its chip assembly and testing plant in China.

Analysts have looked closely at Intel's capital spending budget, which the company has steadfastly maintained this year. Other chip makers have slashed their capital spending budgets as declining demand for computers and other electronics has cut into profit margins.
