BINGO!

All we are saying, is give clorophil a chance. My first gut reaction to 11.09.01 was "US, kick your oil/gas habit".

Has it occurred to anyone here that oil may be obsolete in 10-20 years.

I am sure it has "occurred" to somebody...

That is why we now have an "alternative energy industry"

We were motivated in the 70's to the point that American gas guzzlers began a modification of sorts and we began to be more aggressive thinking about fuel efficiency...

Then came the 80's and the debacle of the oil industry and price crashes of same...

We became complacent again and designed the SUV.

So... We are back to square one... Our dependence on oil (foreign or otherwise), has shown us what the risk of lack of diversification can lead to.

[Whether applied to energy source or portfolio management.]

Will we this time really apply ourselves and once and for all be rid of the dependency on oil ?

Hard to say, but I sure hope so.

But then... we will face another problem... What are these countries whose dependency on oil is that of revenue source, [not consumption], will do ? AND their population growth continues...

Just a thought...

Total population (1999 figures):

"Industrialized world: 942 Million Growth Rate: 0.4 %(strangely, they include Mexico --which it has a 1.2 % growth rate on a base of 97 million)

Former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe: 413 Million GR 0%

"Developing countries" 4,628 Mil (4.6 Bill) GR 1.3 %

Total world 5,983 Mill (5.9 bill) GR 1.1 %

Not funny at all. Your statement of oil not even be relevant may be truer than originally intended. In 20 years the projected total population of our world is supposed to be 7.5 billion...

What makes us think that if we cannot manage 6 billion, how are we going to "get along" with an additional 1.5 billion more ? Ah and btw... about 94 % of the growth will be in the "developing world" i.e. the poor ones.

Growth Rate of "middle east" and "other middle east" ?

2.0 % for a combined future total of 616 million.

Ah yes... but religion says you must not have birth control... Damned it. It makes me sick !

I sincerely hope I am wrong.
