Politics***OT**>>>We need to step back from
the imaginary thresholds that separate people from each other and re-examine
the labels, reconsider the limited resources available, decide to share our
fates with each other as cultures mostly have done, despite the bellicose cries
and creeds.<<<

The next few months will tell us if the US government has learned anything out of this tragedy or if we continue with business as usual.

Some of the Web sites about hunger posted by Brian...get into the politics of hunger. Two nations have have seriously starving populations, that the US has chosen to ignore. Iraq and Afghanistan. Its estimated that between 500K and 1M Iraqi's will die of starvation this year. Some what less in Afghanistan. Food aid from American surplus food banks to these areas is prohibited (USDA). Now if a million Israeli's were in danger of starvation this year, we would be having telethon after telethon to solve the problem. This has not gone un-noticed in the Arab and Muslim world.

There is a tremendous amounts of politics in the distribution of American surplus food, and often the last consideration , "where will it do the most good?".

For those of you that got this far in this posting, thanks for your time.
