chris, he partly blamed the horror of sept 11th on those who did not share his beliefs. Believe what you want, if my loved ones die, i will not partly blame you. Neither should falwell.

fags, perverts, femi-nazi's, ACLU supporters, abortion performers, satirists, athiests, commies

Huh?

<wogga-wogga-wogga-wogga-BLINK-BLINK-peeer>

He really did say that.

Guess I better go back to Bible study and find out where it singles out the damned. Satirists? Mimes, now that I could believe...

Mr. Land, I do believe you're mistaken. 'Femi-nazi' is in the gospel according to Rush, not any Bible I've read. ACLU supporters are supporters of civil liberties, just like Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and other founding fathers were. Satirists? C'mon, you threw that in on your own.

Such foul names that you call people is not at all like the kindness practiced by Christ. Vile threats and name-calling is how you drive people away from, not towards God. And you recall there is a punishment for turning God's children away from Him, don't you?

I was always able to pray in school. My kids still can. I'm glad their teacher can't lead them in prayer; what if she is a Satanist?

And how can that be a "crime against atheists" as you claim? Atheists don't pray.

By the things you've written here, with your own additions to texts that are very sacred to Christian believers, and from training I've had, I seriously suggest that you seek out the help of a qualified health professional.

Many of us have suffered a great deal the past two weeks and that pain can be manifested into exhaustion, anxiety, and unclear thinking. Please consider it; it should help you feel better, Mr. Land.

Before you answer that keep in mind that prayer in school has been outlawed as a crime against atheists.

What are you some kind of nut?
Maybe you need to do a little reading.
The ONLY reason prayer is not allowed in public schools is because of FEDERAL MONEY. Prayer was perfectly acceptable in school until the federal funds were added.
Take away federal funds and school prayer comes right back.

Please don't bother to reply. By spewing your hatred you have just made my ignore list.

Fred

In the beginning there was fear, then there was GOD.

Chris land, well that was very uplifting. I'm not sure what you were trying to accomplish with your comments but you twisted scripture among other things.

I think we could learn much from watching the rescuers work "together" tirelessly for what will probably be a thankless cause and even our nation's politicians that are demonstrating a surprising example of how to pull together in a time of crisis and disagree if appropriate, but in a respectful manner.

Please go read the message from Billy Graham from the NY prayer service last week for a better view on how Jesus might view these events.

Since you attempted to bring scripture into this discussion, I'd like to offer the following as an encouragement to whoever may read this:

A message of hope:

"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish.
Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all.
For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you. Do not fear; I will help you." Isaiah 41:10-13;

and a call to action:

"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgement on themselves...For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer."
Romans 13:1-4

I think most would agree that in spite of this tragedy, there has been much "good" that's come of this and I believe we will see more positive effects in the days and years to come. I borrowed a few examples from Charles Stanley:

1) We were burning the flag and now we're bearing it.
2) A strong sense of unity in our country and even the world.
3) Greater reverance and respect for human life.
4) People have become more important than profit.
5) A deeper sense of consciousness of God.
6) A greater sense of things eternal.

Open question (for anyone) to consider:

Suppose you had perished in this disaster. Also suppose that you have a young child and that child asked your spouse a question,

"If daddy (or mommy) died in the plane crash, what happened do him ? Where did he go ? Will I ever see him again ?"

What would be your answer ?

Chris land: I didn't see your post until this morning, but thanks for giving me a good laugh to begin my day. Bin Laden can use more enthusiastic zealots like you. Have yourself a wonderful life.

I was raised as an atheist in the south, and was subjected to teacher-led Christian prayers every morning. It was a source of significant confusion and unhappiness for me.

Chris, if you had your way, would citizen-representatives of the atheist view on religion be able to present their texts to the children, too, or only those of theists? Let's say, might we be also regularly scheduled to read to the children, from the essays of Jeremy Bentham, John Stuart Mill, Bertrand Russell, H.L. Mencken, and similar thinkers, writers and 'free thought' philosophers?

or would only those with your views be able to stand at the podium mornings?

Chris, would you mind answering this post?

Message 16407376

I'd appreciate it. And I just posted the one below to Jo Ellen T. I'd be very reassured to hear your answer to the question I posed to you in it.

I'm sure.
