You should have realized long before now that the ...

... 'middleman' -- the wholesaler part of the distribution channel -- in the travel biz -- is dead.

That would be you.

It's the Internet, stupid. Not the airlines that has rendered your 'professional services' obsolete.

There's no need on the part of consumers, especially -- and even businesses, for your 'services.'

I say real estate's going the same way, although that may take a while longer. The 'e-commerce' thingie.

Checked the price of Sabre, for instance, stock lately?

Get a life, jackass ... a new one.

You're going to have to.

But as a 'professional,' you should have seen this coming at least three years ago.

Have you ever heard of 'TravelBridge,' BTW?

Just curious ...

No, being a travel agent isn't lower than being a bug, and neither is being a buggy-whip salesperson.

<<I don't know why you call me obsessive for wanting to stay in business and speaking aginst a group of companies that would like to put me out of business. Do you call unions obsessive when they demand fairness or decent working conditions and pay?>>

I raised it because your fury at the airlines, vented via nastiness to Rambi, seemed very personal. It seems i was right about that. It's about your personal ox being gored.

<<What, other than your ignorance, causes you to refer to travel agents as supernumerary?>>

I'm assuming others have had my experience. I used to book only through travel agents. After i started checking to see whether they had, indeed, gotten me the best price, connections, etc, and discovered that i could do it better myself, i stopped using them. I suspect i'm not the only one who's figured this out.

Michael

I do understand your anger and that your very livelihood is being threatened

I'm sure people with airline jobs feel the same way, for it is their livelihood too

few could argue that several airlines have been poorly run, look at their balance sheets. the transportation sector in general hasn't performed well

but [there always has to be a but] it's hardly fair to direct your frustrations and concerns [I'm not saying they're unwarranted or wrong] to an SIer who is connected to the very entity you've voiced opposition to. it only corners and makes a person defensive

also, imo [not that you asked me], questionable comments about ones family should be left off SI

btw, I love my travel agent. she has actually traveled to many of the places I have gone to. her knowledge and advice is invaluable when going to an 'unknown' destination. as for airline tickets, I may pay more through her, but she gets me on the plane, flight and seat I want. as I fearful flyer who flys often, that alone is priceless to me
