While MCOM did not offer service "everywhere", they had several large markets, i.e. NY, DC, Seattle and (i think) Atlanta.

MCOM was trying to target the business traveler who needed internet service. Their first product offered wireless internet @ 33.6k. The company declared bankruptcy (i think again) while MCOM was trying to deploy broadband wireless service.

It might not be the most "analagous" of comparisons, but it is a negative datapoint.
