Wellllllll.... Lord of the Rings, I'd say is fantasy, not science fiction. And I'm not fond of fantasy.

That is what I was acknowledging with the "sci-fi/fantasy" lead in ("If you still read sci-fi/fantasy you will probably be looking forward to the movie release of LOTR this fall!"). I did not know you were a sci-fi purist <g>

I haven't read either genre for some time, but LOTR and Thomas Covenant (Donaldson) were hugely important to me for their exploration of human nature and their depiction of the inner dilemas and outward conflicts which challenge the individual--especially in her search for meaning.

But I can grok you not liking fantasy--Sometimes, I don't like reality ;-)
