"I am not convinced that the death of Bin Laden and/or the fall of Afghanistan would significantly degrade the capability of the terrorist organization."

Now, there's certainly the $640 billion question. We'd better hope all stops are being pulled out domestically and internationally to track, expose, and demoralize them. If counterattacks actually don't materialize in any great degree, Ridge & the administration will deserve great credit, and this will be a much different country.

"If I had to choose between leaving Afghanistan under the Taleban and having Saudi Arabia and Pakistan fall to fundamentalists, I'd take the former any day. "

Things move fast - maybe that choice won't have to be made... What do you think of the Saudi severing diplomatic relations w. the Taleban ?
