re: Are we sensitive or what?

Actually, I've read some things recently, that moves me closer to SunTzu's position, things that indicate incredible arrogance and insensitivity in our government:

1. Publicly announcing that we would be using Saudi military facilities, before we had even asked them. We should at least leave them a patina of sovereignity, a fig leaf of self-determination, to hide the reality of Colonialism by Proxy.

2. The use of the word "crusade". Few words carry more emotional content, few words are so soaked in blood and hate. The use of the word by any government official, in the context of military activity by a Christian nation against a Moslem nation, was incredibly stupid. Hopefully, that was just a mistake by the ShrubHandlers.

Mistakes like that, if they indicate a pattern, are going to make it much harder to win the BattleForHeartsAndMinds. The fact that, already, we have had to repeatedly "repair damage to Muslim sensibilities" is a bad sign.
