I am not an AMDroid but I still say the P4 is a POS and I admit that it's doing AMD in.

RE:"It is amusing (sorry, I really don't want to rub this in) how the folks on this thread have said P4 is a POS from day one. Yet that POS seems to be the thing that is doing AMD in."

Well, I saw the this (P4) coming a year ago...knowing Mhz would sell regardless and Intel would pick the benchmarks. Still I hoped that the Athlon could keep closer in MHz...remember that AMD promised 1.5 Ghz in Q1...
Then the PC market dropped off the deep end, now we have terrorism. Meanwhile Boxmakers are fearing for their existance and Intel is there with the advertizing dollars...
So AMD is the odd man out.

The problem here is that people are "too smart". They somehow expect average Joe to know the Athlon is the more powerful chip at 500 Mhz less. Ain't gonna happen...

I wish I had those PMs and posts from the chip designers telling me MHz sells was a joke...but it would be of little consolation. So the P4 is a POS...but it sells...
Right now, if you own AMD you can either sell or hunker down and pray they can survive the economic downturn and come up with a hammer before they go belly up. Unfortunately, there really is no chance to get out now...so goes the stockmarket which discounts things well in advance...
