Fred,
That was a brilliant post.
I agree with every word. I will not fight with you today. I have taken on everyone this morning and spent the afternoon with my beautiful grandson chilling out.
Tomorrow my business reopens. Yes we were closed for two weeks. Finally the electricity will be turned on. I will get myself down to the site sometime tomorrow. They wont stop an old guy from getting fairly close. I need to see this horrific thing that was done to us one last time.

Re: the war The fellow who wrote Perfect Storm was on with Chris Matthews. You can probably catch the rerun on cnbc later this evening. Watch it if you can. The guy was there. He claims the Taliban military is nothing. It is the Bin Laden non-Afghan, mostly arab soldiers who won the war. He says with air and logistical support the Northern Alliance could win. He warned against US soldiers on the ground for a variety of reasons but especially because of possible high casualties--unfamiliarity with the terrain, land mines etc. .
The big question in my mind is that bin laden may choose to abandon the Taliban and save his elite corps by escaping thru pakistan. That's my idea of a possibility. He might gain more that way. Who knows?.
I also think that if we let the Northern Alliance do the fighting with our backing and with some former soviet republic fighters involved, we might actually be going after Iraq. I heard many substantiated reports today of 2 confirmed meetings in europe between Attah(hijacker) and Iraqi operatives. Maybe it had nothing to do with the hijack. Maybe it involved only minor things like chemical and biological weapons. Again who knows? But i maintain that it is essential that bin laden, el qaida, the taliban, and sadaam all most go in this round. The rest of the terrorist states(Iran, Syria, Sudan) have a chance to reform their ways and the rest of the terrorists can be easily contained if that happens. Mike

The terrorists are like the guys in Texas who dragged a man behind their truck. Who wants to understand them? There are some types of behavior that we should simply not tolerate - whatever the motivation.

OT Fred,
Back to work at last! Like a war zone down here in lower Manhattan. But it is another beautiful day. God has blessed us with many of these days recently. Can feel the presence of the dead and the heroes. Getting ready to take a walk to the "ruins" to pay my respects. I will write later about that experience if words apply. mike
