This is not a conventional war. There is no isolated enemy we can summarily defeat. The US has declared other wars which are also unwinable. There is the "War on Poverty" and the "War on Drugs and now there is the "War on Terror". There will always be poverty, there will always be drugs, and there will always be terrorists, whether they be Osama bin Laden operatives or mentally unstable postal workers. These wars are wars of containment for noble causes, however if we sacrifice our liberty to combat any war, we have lost the most important ongoing war there is, "The War for Enduring Freedom". * * *
