I am not talking about Afghanistan, but the oil producers. A lot of the discontent comes from poor economies so if it gets a lot worse it bodes poorly for stability.
However I think this is THE TIME to really push for alternative energy solutions so we DON'T get back into the classic position of depending on their oil anymore. Super Fast trains for all the critical short runs will alleviate much of the airline problems. There is no reason to wait for 2 hours to get on and off planes for 45 minute flights. LA-SF
Baltimore DC NYC etc.
And time to continue the energy conservation programs which have been such a success here in California, albiet under duress. I took mine down 34% without a lot of sacrifice. It's not that hard. And getting LED's into the mainstream for ALL types of lights will make for a great breakthrough.

Our economy is at some risk but not a dire risk in my opinion Our economy is at great risk in large part because of the massive deficit spending which will be done by the Bush Administration. There will be no attempt to resurrect the Bush plan for Social Security. The stock market plunge has killed that plan.
