Senator Huchinson (R - Texas) Has proposed a federal take over of the security at airports.

I generally do not like such federalizations. But this may be an appropriate area to do so. Need to see the details. The lowest bidder is certainly not working.

I would have never done what your daughter did. It is odd, it seems to me that they could find someone in their employ who would not be recognized to such a thing.

The job is actually pretty tough. I have a lot of experience in ergonomics and usability. The problem is one of maintaining an intense focus for a long period of time. Most humans simply can't do it. This is something proffessional athletes, particularly golfers excel at. If one contrasts the number of professional golfers (about 150) to the rest of the populous of golfing (millions), one can start to appreciate the scale of the focus needed and what the average human has the ability to do.

Although certainly not an exact comparison, the level of focus needed is similar. And the security person must sit there for hours on a very repetitive and boring task.

Fortunatly, there are technologies and techniques that can help.
