As long as men clothe themselves, even in warm weather, or create rituals around their mating, including seeking privacy for coitus, or set aside special places to relieve themselves, rather than evacuating anywhere, they are distinguishing themselves, however imperfectly, from animals.

Holy people are means of keeping the sacred alive in societies often beset with everyday cares. They exalt us by helping to keep a channel open to eternity, and thus help us to rise above the quotidian. Obviously, it depends upon context somewhat, but within the context of a religious culture, the principle is vindicated........

I left the question of religion to another post, since religion had nothing to do with what I wrote. However, you are right, I would consider that God built us thus, in the end. I, of course, do not think that we have all developed so differently. We have a lot in common, depending upon degree of civilization. I also do not think there are thousands of different religions. Most people belong to one of the major religions, from Judaism to Buddhism. There are several different religions, each with a number of sectarian variants. Why? Because, I suppose, we are left with different histories and substantial freedom.
