Thus, this is why the US must not just give out money indiscriminately. We must take the long road and help to develop these economies step by step, layer by layer, until they are strong enough to create the foundation for a democratic society.

But is that what the US govt. is doing?

Or is the US govt. supporting anyone, and I do mean ANYONE, who will act to benefit US and US interests AT THAT MOMENT in time? Again I must mention Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein as having received support in Arms, finance and CIA training.

Shouldnt the US govt. have a long range foreign policy that is well known throughout the world, something like our constituition or 'what business are we in' rule of a business, and something we will not veer from?

I believe that once US makes its position known in the world and acts, selflessly, in that goal, it will start to be loved and not hated by many people in the world. Remmeber its the inconsistencies and the changes that people fight against and not the norm.
