Portland INS has a record for being harsher than the INS departments of other cities. Whether or not the INS should be harsher, less harsh, or more consistent isn't the point. The real point is that it is hurting businesses in Portland.

Intel does 60% of its business outside of the U.S. Other tech companies depend just as much on international markets. It's very important to realize that tightening our borders can have adverse affects on the global economy.

I'm not against tighter security. I'm just against being dumb about it, as Portland INS apparently was. The good news is that there is tons of room for improvement, and I believe we can have borders that are both open and secure. We have to be smart about it, though.
