OT Solzhenitsyn: His nation got the defeat he was hoping for, at the hands of the same small poor chaotic country where we are now going adventuring, and after the defeat came the soul-searching he hoped for, and the yearning for freedom. So, now, the system he wrote against is gone......but.... chaos, not freedom, has replaced Stalinism. An improvement? Instead of a "deepening of the inner life" or a "spiritual upsurge", the response has been: Russian men drink all day, and Russian women see such a bleak future, they refuse to have babies. His great sad nation is dying. I'm not a Buddhist or a Russian. Suffering, defeat, and misfortune are not the path to anywhere I want to go. No thanks.
