Jacob, Instead of a "deepening of the inner life" or a "spiritual upsurge", the response has been: Russian men drink all day, and Russian women see such a bleak future, they refuse to have babies. You are making a broad leap there. Somehow losing to Afghanistan is a causal factor in the country's current problems in and of itself? Attempting to move from a communist nation to a capitalist one has had no influence? Massive corruption rife throughout both the public and private sectors has not had any influence on the people? I expect simplistic answers from many people but you are not one of them. Regards, Brian
