Faith is a four-letter word.

Although you extol the virtues of faith when applied to your own belief system, you would probably not be so supportive of the faith of a Muslim. What about faith for a Mormon? A Buddhist? A Hindu? And yes, even atheists use faith. These other kinds of faith just help to lock people into worldviews that I'm sure you would consider harmful to their well-being. It is very fortunate for you to have found the one type of faith that is actually beneficial.
Faith can make a man donate time and energy to helping others...

And faith can also make a man fly a fully-loaded airliner into a building...

Faith will tend to strengthen the beliefs of the person possessing it, by ignoring or even being fearful of information that would contradict those beliefs. Faith is not a respecter of persons, strengthening beliefs irregardless of the truth. I am sorry that I cannot remember the source of this quote:

"Truth can only shine brighter in its collision with error."

I might be providing the truth on this thread, and I might be providing the error. But either is both helpful and necessary. Any attempt to shy away from engagement is the sign of a belief system unworthy of faith.
