You must use Netscape.

Those who use Netscape can never be moral.

I think I resolved this issue with Joe, today. Either we disparage socity for our beneift, or we disparage ourselve for socity. Tough call. But, I think that free will demands the latter.

<we have to ignore the consequences of our actions in our assessment of their morality>

That is the exact opposite of the message I give to my children. Ethics are ONLY about consequences. Is it immoral to do something when no other affected sentient thing is involved? No. There can be no offense until some sentient thing knows or is otherwise directly (or very likely to be) affected. If you did this (unspeakable act) 100 miles from the nearest town in the middle of the Mojave desert, and never tell anyone and nothing ever suffers (or is likely to suffer) from it, was it immoral? No, IMO, it really can't be. Neither if you think it, with the following caveat.

I would caution that thoughts tend to bring about action, so you do risk eventually performing an immoral act if you ponder such acts too much ( specifically, an act leading to undesirable consequences to yourself or other sentient things). But the thinking part is not immoral, it is ultimately only the actions (that arguably start as thoughts) and their effects that we can take offense to.
