>IT'S ALL OVER NOW, BABY BLUE

You must leave now, take what you need, you think will last.
But whatever you wish to keep, you better grab it fast.
Yonder stands your orphan with his gun,
Crying like a fire in the sun.
Look out the saints are comin' through
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense.
Take what you have gathered from coincidence.
The empty-handed painter from your streets
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets.
This sky, too, is folding under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

All your seasick sailors, they are rowing home.
All your reindeer armies, are all going home.
The lover who just walked out your door
Has taken all his blankets from the floor.
The carpet, too, is moving under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you.
Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you.
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore.
Strike another match, go start anew
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

>> That's what I meant. So you're saying if we find a country is still practicing slavery, we can't stand up and say 'that's wrong'? <<

we can say whatever we like. it's an entirely different matter to impose our will or morality all over the globe. whatever happened to leading by example?

>> The price of isolationism can be just as dear (see the Great Depression). <<

the depression had nothing to do with isolationism!

>> And anyway, whether some people like it or not, we are the most powerful country in the world, by a pretty fair distance <<

so? having great power means we need to flex it on a regular basis and throw our weight around? hmm...didn't the british do that? where is "great" britain today? where are the romans today?

>> I don't think we could go back to true isolationism anymore even if we wanted to. <<

oh that's a fine argument. we've been doing wrong for so long that we've gone too far to turn back now. is that the best you can do?
