As I told Kenneth, I've followed The New York Times, OpEd Editor, Paul Krugman since
last winter. He, too, said a tax cut would result in deficits as early as this fall, I believe..

Gail Collins, Editorial Page Editor of The New York Times was on Jim Lehrer News Hour on PBS. On the one hand, she mentioned that the Bush administration tells us to get on with our lives and not worry about
war, but on the other hand, she suggested that there is so much hype about war that people don't know what to do.

I could understand the dilemma when I tuned into the CBS evening news. The big beat of the war music in the background was so loud that it almost blew me off the sofa. You could imagine the drums rolling to a feverish pitch when Dan Rather introduced Colin Powell.

The music and the voices were so loud that I couldn't stand it so I switched to the Jim Lehrer News Hour on PBS where the voices were calm even though there was a discussion on bioterrorism which was so straightforward that I wasn't frightened.. After awhile, I switched back to CBS, and once again there was terror on the tv screen. This time there was a story about people buying and wearing gas masks.!

I decided that I'd rather get a good night's sleep so I stayed with the News Hour

We skipped the tv news this past weekend because we'd had heard enough about war and bin Laden.. I thought that I had seen a post from you about the war hype on one thread or another. If you have felt unsettled about all the talk about war and perhaps biological war, now I can understand why.

For a calmer approach, I'd suggest the Jim Lehrer News Hour where I also saw an interview with India's foreign minister who doesn't believe the Taliban will survive without Pakistan's help.

Towards the end, there was a calm discussion with the staff from The New York Times ---Collins, Rich and Safire about bin Laden and a possible war.

I'm tired but I think I'll sleep well. I wonder how people's kids react to the overly dramatic war hype that they may see on the national tv networks.
