What I mean by lack of strategic depth is simple. Any force you put in there isn't going to have a lot of space to work with or to fall back on if attacked. Your dealing with a small amount of land anyway and since the force would just be at the border it would be vulnerable to either military or terrorist attack. If you want to impose the solution by force then you will need to occupy the whole area and have a large force deployed there to control it.

I think a just solution has to be from an agreement of the parties involved. I think Israel should allow and recognize a Palestinian state and the PLO (and the government of the Palestinian state after it is created) should recognize Israel. The exact borders would of course be subject to negotiation but they wouldn't differ too much from the green line but Israel would keep at least a big chunk of Jerusalem.
