So what is in the photos shown may be something totally different. The point of my post is that every location in Afghanistan is being viewed not just by dummies at the New York times but by smart folks with far more detailed multispectral sensors.

I would say the NY Times is a very liberal paper, but I doubt they doctor the photos. I say it is possible to use a photo (or even a story) to amke a point, even if you don't like the Times.
