False or misleading advertising is illegal in California and most other states. Here is a fact sheet from the California Department of Consumer affairs.

I believe you. I was simply pointing out that the Mazda case involved outright fraud, claiming something based on a given metric and it clearly wasn't what was claimed. AMD's misleading claim is different but, as you point out, perhaps no less illegal.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

AMD's model ratings are lot better indication of performance than P4's MHZ and we all know it. If such a case were ever brought, it would be Intel that would end up paying once the dust settled.
